You can view live data with the Online Seismograph

The Labin Online Seismograph has been tested on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Linux, using Netscape 4.7 or newer, and Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer. You need the Java 1.2 runtime environment (or newer) installed on your computer to use the seismograph. Java 1.2 can be freely downloaded from Sun Microsystems. The seismograph is best viewed on a monitor with a resolution of 800 by 600, or better.
Seismograph display example     The scale control buttons on the right side of the seismograph allow you to select the vertical (amplitude) scale. The MINUS (-) button decrease the scale and the PLUS (+) button increases the scale. The AUTO-SCALE (A) button allows the seismograph to automatically adjust to the optimum viewing scale. Click the AUTO-SCALE button to scale the signal so it fits on the graph.
A red line or line segment indicates missing data. Data can be lost during transmission from the remote station.
We are aware that the online seismograph may not work on all operating systems and browsers, especially Macintosh systems. There are significant differences in the way the Windows and Macintosh operating systems handle Java and javascript. We do not have access to Macintosh systems and therefore have not work out these problems. We would like to hear from Macintosh users about this problem.  Recent reports indicate the seismograph works on OS X.

Jon Labin      The online seismograph was designed and programmed by Jonathan Labin , a graduate of the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Jon has written Java, Perl, Python, C-flavored, VisualBasic and CGI programs for Maryland Geological Survey.  His Java and Perl scripts are employed to present seismic data in a graphical format for web browsers. The seismograph uses a Java applet which is downloaded into, and executed by, you web browser. This applet draws data from the seismic network and displays it on a stripchart-like, animated image.
You can also join the Seismic Network by installing free software on your computer and viewing live seismic data as it is transmitted from the earth.  See the Join the Network page for details.
