Data Collection

WELL CONSTRUCTION:

The diagram to the left represents the typical construction components for observation wells drilled as a part of the Southern Maryland Project.

Each well is composed of 4-inch diameter steel casing, with 4-inch stainless steel well screens positioned in sandy areas of the aquifer. The screen is surrounded by packed gravel, while the casing is surrounded by cement.

Screening intervals, well altitudes, water levels, and aquifer elevations are different for each well. Please see individual site descriptions in the Field Sites section for site-specific well and aquifer information.
