Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership

Maryland Geological Survey is a member of the Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership in cooperation with the Power Plant Research Program and Maryland Energy Administration. The MRCSP has been established to assess the technical and economic potential, as well as public acceptability of carbon sequestration within its region. The MRCSP region currently consists of seven states making up a contiguous seven-state region: Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Michigan. A group of leading universities, state geological surveys, non-governmental organizations and private companies, headed by Battelle Memorial Institute, has been assembled to carry out this effort. The MRCSP is currently conducting a two-year phase 1 project, started in October 2003 with 66% ($1.6 million) of the total funding from the DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).
