WHIP! is a Web browser plug-in that enables the display of vector-based images. Vector images can be viewed at any resolution. The user may zoom in and out of the vector image, and print the image to any desired scale with no loss of detail. This is an ideal format for map presentations on the Web. Vector objects can also be interactive - the user can activate various layers of data, pan and zoom the image, and read coordinates from the image. Objects in the vector image can be linked to databases, creating a Web-enabled Geographical Information System.

You must have at least a fourth generation web browser to use all of the features on these pages. You should be using Netscape 4.1 (Communicator) or Internet Explorer 4.x, or newer versions. If you do not know what version browser you are using, click on your browser's HELP menu and select ABOUT. The version will be displayed in the ABOUT box. Please upgrade your browser if necessary. Upgrades are free and widely available on the Internet.

WHIP! was published by Autodesk , makers of AutoCAD, AutoCAD MAP and Land Development Desktop. These software packages are used to create some of our on-line maps. WHIP! is no longer supported or distributed by Autodesk, and has been replaced with DWF Viewer. 

WHIP! is available for Netscape Navigator 3.01 and above, and Internet Explorer 3 and above. The plug-in can be downloaded to your computer and installed manually, or it can be directly installed from the Web. If you are using Internet Explorer 4.1 or higher, Explorer will automatically attempt to install the WHIP! plug-in from the AUTO-Install page. Look at your status bar (the bar in the lower center of your IE browser) to see if the plug-in is downloading. If you are using Netscape Navigator 4.x or higher, you can install the WHIP! plug-in directly into Netscape from a Java Archive File (JAR), or download it to your hard drive and install it manually. Web-based installations seem to work better than local installations, especially if you use both browser on one computer. Auto-installation will not work with 3rd generation browsers (Netscape 3.x or IE 3.x).

TO GET WHIP! CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING METHODS:

If you are using NETSCAPE or MOZILLA,
Download Whip! from MGS and install it from your hard drive.

If you are using Internet Explorer
Install WHIP! from the Web directly into INTERNET EXPLORER 4.1 or above: A dialog box will appear. Choose "Open this file from its current location"	Auto-Install from MGS from an I E CAB file.
Download WHIP! to a local hard drive for installation:	Download Whip.exe from MGS and install it from your hard drive.
