This is a vector format map.
Unlike raster images, it can be rescaled without distortion. The map were
created in ArcGIS
8.3 and consists of polyline segments. Two file formats are available: Autodesk's Drawing
Exchange Format (.DXF),
and ESRI's Shapefile (.SHP).
These are widely accepted vector data standards and are used by programs such as
AutoCAD,
ArcGIS, ArcInfo, CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, JASC's Paint Shop
Pro, Bryce 3D, 3D Studio Max, and many Intergraph programs.

Description: These data are produced by the State Highway Administration's Highway Mapping Team for their GRID Map base. They originally were digitized from the USGS 7.5' quadrangle maps and have been enhanced through property records research. This database does not contain the new boundary near Takoma Park between Prince George's and Montgomery counties. The data are created to be map accurate at a scale of 1:24,000. These data were created on a CAD (Computer Aided Design) type of system. They were merged into county files and converted to a GIS format by Towson State University under contract to the Maryland Office of Planning
